Background

The Riverdale Pump Station is located by the Deep River at a point where a major 66” diameter gravity sewer outfall line carries raw untreated sewage to the pump station which is then pumped to theCity of High Point’s main treatment facility. This gravity sewer line which parallels the Deep River was originally constructed with In-Line vertical fiberglass manholes that allowed for access into the sewer line. Because several of these manholes were located in the flood plain and were subject to being submerged underwater during heavy rain events the City of High Point decided they needed to be raised getting them out of the flood zone. They also needed to replace the deteriorated cast-iron ring & covers that were non-functional with a composite noncorrosive system.

Our Solution

We provided a centrifugally cast fiberglass section of pipe that was fabricated into a vertical manhole top. This manhole section had a solid reinforced fiberglass top rated for highway loading and was constructed with a composite manhole ring cast into the top. Fiberglass vent flanges were added for venting the manholes along with fiberglass pull tabs that assisted with the installation process
